Carlson Tool and Manufacturing designs and manufactures Plastic Injection Molds and Foundry related tooling for a variety of industries. Our services include: design, build, product modeling/development, and reverse engineering services to support the Consumer goods, Packaging, and Automotive markets. The ideal candidate will have extensive design experience with a variety of high-performance plastic injection molds and cast metal tooling technologies, and exhibit leadership qualities.
We are seeking a high energy, hands-on individual to lead our excellent team of designers, while also sustaining superb communications with our customers and department leaders.

Job Responsibilities:

Lead all Mold Design and Engineering activities.

Assess and manage requirements for incoming orders involving design.

Oversee and assign personnel to projects.

Foster a departmental culture of excellence, ingenuity and collaboration.

Be engaged with the professional growth of the design team.

Champion proactive customer communications.

Optimize and maintain design standards and department processes.

Initiate and lead project launch meetings.

Perform, analyze and interpret engineering calculations and simulations that affect tooling performance including heat transfer, fluid dynamics, metal stress/strain/fatigue, corrosion modes, energy & power, and basic mechanics.

Work closely with Sales, Manufacturing, and Quality functions to optimize overall results.

Ensure projects are on schedule and within budget.

Be a contributor to our design capacity.
Qualifications:
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering preferred.
- 5 - 10 years of progressive management experience.

Thorough understanding of plastic injection molding. Foundry related tooling knowledge a plus.

Expert with a wide variety of tooling technologies.

Superior math skills required.

Journeyman Mold Maker with a minimum of 5 years in a mold making environment and a minimum of 5 years plastic injection mold design experience.

Experience with Unigraphics NX CAD is preferred. Familiarity Solid Works CAD or equivalent will be considered.

Candidate must have a thorough understanding of all aspects of mold manufacturing, including the ability to read and interpret design standards and to accurately understand and manage customer expectations.

Previous experience with planning and leading multiple projects and design reviews using internal and external resources, with cross functional teams.

Candidate will be highly organized and efficient in developing and reporting project critical elements, i.e. open issues, project timing plans, budget variances, etc. to management and internal/external teams. Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.

Willingness to travel throughout North America (US Passport required).

Strong Communication Skills and able to communicate fluently in English
