Description

Join a Team Where Your Experience and Mentorship Will Make an Impact!

Are you ready for a role where your advanced CNC skills can be used to their full potential? Carlson Tool & Manufacturing is growing, and we’re looking for a skilled Second Shift Lead Lathe Machinist who wants more than just a job — they want a role that values precision, rewards reliability, and offers the ability to lead and mentor others.

As a Lead Lathe Machinist your abilities will be put to expansive use while also guiding and leading our team of lathe machinists. We have a modern, dynamic environment with a high mix of orders supporting a variety of high-impact industries including Military/Defense, Energy, Aviation, Railroad, Medical, Mining and many more! This is a full-time, second-shift position in a clean, well-equipped facility where your work makes a real impact.

What You'll Do:
In this role, you’ll help mentor others in the manufacturing of high-quality, precision parts — from smaller chuck work up to 160″ long and 36″ in diameter — by creating CNC lathe programs using Mazatrol, identifying tooling needs, and maintaining precise inspection records. You’ll work in a clean, climate-controlled, well-equipped facility where your skill and attention to detail make a real impact. If you’re someone who takes ownership, likes solving problems, and enjoys a quieter, more focused second shift — you’ll feel right at home here.

What You’ll Get:

  • Weekly pay: Starting at $38/hr and up depending on experience + 10% shift premium
  • $2,500 Signing Bonus for qualified candidates
  • Relocation Assistance for qualified candidates
  • Full Health Care Coverage including Dental & Vision
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with employer contributions
  • Life and AD&D Insurance
  • PTO & Paid Holidays
  • Gainsharing Bonus Program
  • Self-Directed 401(k) with 3% Company Match
  • Referral Bonuses
  • Company-provided PPE including prescription safety glasses & safety-toe shoe reimbursement
  • Company-provided inspection equipment
  • Family-Owned Environment with Company lunches, Milestone recognitions, Cookouts and Holiday Parties

And did we mention perks like our on-site Carlson Recreational Center? Think weightlifting, cardio, a golf simulator, pickleball court, and more — open to employees and their families.

What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • 5+ years of experience operating CNC Lathe machines - required.
  • Proficient programming skills using Mazatrol - required.
  • Prior experience mentoring others is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Mastercam programming is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret part prints and technical drawings.
  • Ability to calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Ability to process precision parts from start to finish.

A Day in the Life:
  • Set up, program, and run Mazak CNC lathes
  • Lead and mentor a team of CNC Lathe Machinists
  • Inspect and validate your own work using precision measuring equipment
  • Complete short-run jobs with frequent changeovers and tool adjustments
  • Keep work areas clean, safe, and organized
